Think of what you do when you wake up in the morning, like the first thing you do literally. For me when I wake up my unconscious self says a prayer or I wake up with a song, and then I check my messages.

Just like me, have you ever wondered or thought how you have gotten used to getting up and having tea first or checking your mail or going for a run?

HABITS

According to the words of Charles Duggs in his book, “Power of habits” He said all our life is a circle of habits. We pick up ideas, thoughts, patterns, and reactions every single day and continual usage makes it become a habit. Habits are those patterns that we adopt over time with skills and aptness.

Acts 11:26 “And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught many people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”  The apostles were first called Christians that is to say Christ-like. They must have picked up habits from Christ before his ascension. Just like we develop habits that help us grow towards success in life and attain a certain level of maturity, so also there are habits that enhance spiritual growth in order to achieve a level of Spiritual maturity from being babies to Adults.

1 Peter 2:2 “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby”

“That we may grow” Christian habits that help us to attain that level of Spirituality.

Habit 01   “Pray Without ceasing”

If you have a friend that you want to pass an important information to, you can reach out to them through WhatsApp or imessage or any other social media platforms. The point of this is that prayer is not just a means of communication to God. Communicating with God can be done through Praise and worship, the word of God or meditation, however. Prayer is being conscious of God and his being. It is the constant commitment to God’s presence. The effective growth of a Christian happens when we stay in tune with God. Staying within the pocket, maintaining the frequency.

Why did the Bible say “Pray without ceasing”?

  • God uses prayer as a tool for spiritual growth and maturity. The more we come to the Father to communicate, the closer we are to seeing more of Him and achieving more growth.
  • Prayer is a concept that helps to keep our spiritual life in check.
  • Prayer is the ritual of burning incense on the altar of God. Just like you take breakfast every morning which becomes a ritual so also is prayer. A ritual.
  • Prayer is not letting go of God’s presence because God’s presence is like a flowing river that never ends.
  • Through prayer, our needs, requests, and wants, are made known to the Father with assurance and confidence that he will answer.

1 John 5:14-15 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”

Christians will succeed in growing in faith when he stays in touch with the Father through prayer.

5 Prayer quotes from the Scripture

  • Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
  • Romans 12:12 “Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;”
  • Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
  • James 5:13 “Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.”
  • James 5:16-18 “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.”
