Do you know that previously boiled water freezes faster than water at room temperature? Well, now you know. This observation is called The Mpemba effect. Below the preceding headline, you will find a few lines that will help you understand the concept and how the name came about.

What exactly is the Mpemba Effect?

The  Mpemba effect is named after a Tanzanian, Erasto Bartholomeo Mpemba. He described it in 1963 and published this result with his teacher in 1969. It is rumoured that Aristotle discovered this first, however, it is named after the Tanzanian schoolboy. Simply put, The Mpemba effect is a special phenomenon where hot water freezes faster than cold water.

The most dazzling part of “The Mpemba effect” is that not one single scientist has an explanation for this phenomenon, nor do they have an understanding of why this happens or how it happens.

Well, that’s enough for the science side of this topic. I came up with my own conclusions about the Mpemba Effect “and they are as follows:

  • The Mpemba effect itself is like our journey through life; the ups and downs, twists and turns, and numerous other unexplainable happenings.
  • The ultimate goal for everyone is to live a “chilling” or “soft” life. (the freezing part of the experiment at the end)
  • Those who want to get to the chilling part of their lives fast and easily may have to pass through the heating phase in order to get there quickly. It helps us to buttress the popular trendy saying that “if you are going through a lot right now, go through it, it’s your turn.”
  • The heating phase is a representation of your failures, learning, resilience, persistence, and capacity to be malleable. Meanwhile, if you are seeing “hell” now, this might just be the beginning. There’s more to come, but it’s all in a bid to prepare you for your ultimate moment.
  • Your timing might not be the same as your peers’. You have no idea what they have gone through, or rather, they have no idea what you are going through.
  • There’s always an unexplainable light at the end of the tunnel if you persist through the heating phase and stay resolute. Your time will come, your freezing-chilling moment.
  • Your faith won’t save you from the heating phase, but hope will keep you and see you through this phase.
  • If you boycott the heating phase or rather refuse to go through it, it might take longer to reach the ultimate freezing-chilling phase. (Your comfort zone might bring you immediate comfort, but you were not created to remain in the comfort zone forever).

I will leave you with the words of Rich Barnes, “Greater is he who accepts discouragement and keeps forward momentum, never retreating. Greater is he who sees the light at the end of the tunnel and keeps his eye on the light.”
