Opeyemi Hasiat Kareem, a distinguished former writer at KloutBox, has achieved academic excellence by graduating with first-class honours in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). She is among the 18 all-female first-class graduates from her department celebrated during UNILAG’s 55th Convocation ceremony.

During her tenure at KloutBox, Kareem authored several impactful articles that resonated with readers and shed light on significant societal issues. In her interview with Rita Ofili titled “Disabilities and Pageantry: It’s Not Only About Catwalking on the Stage,” she presented the challenges and triumphs of individuals with disabilities in the pageantry world. Another notable article, “Walking on Crutches: People See Me as Weak; It’s Perhaps Why I Am Still Single,” provided a poignant narrative on the societal perceptions and limitations faced by people living with physical disabilities.

In “You Are Still on a Wheelchair Because You Have Not Accepted Jesus and Other Hot Takes Strangers Give PWDs in Nigeria,” she explored the unsolicited advice and misconceptions people with disabilities often encounter and what PLWD would rather hear.

Opeyemi’s rich repertoire was further evident in her range across various beats. In particular, she showcased her versatility by addressing economic challenges in articles like “Sapa Chronicles: 6 Ways Nigerians React When Sapa Strikes” while offering practical money saving hacks in “What to Eat When Sapa Strikes” and “How to Prevent Billing as a Legit Hustler.”

Her academic achievement, combined with her impactful journalism, underscores Kareem’s dedication to excellence and her commitment to highlighting underrepresented narratives. As she embarks on the next chapter of her career, her contributions continue to inspire and inform, reflecting a rare mastery of scholarly rigour and extracurricular creative nous.

KloutBox is proud of Opeyemi’s contributions recognized to date for what they really are — phenomenal.

Congratulations, Opeyemi Hasiat Kareem for showcasing the kind of rare brilliance that inspires others to dream bigger and believe in the power of their own light.
